IPL 2018: Umesh Yadav oozing confidence after brilliant performance
He is currently RCB's leading wicket-taker in the tournament.
Umesh Yadav has had a superlative outing thus far in the eleventh edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has been a gun bowler for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) with 17 wickets in 12 matches. Moreover, he is also their leading wicket-taker and one of the primary reasons behind RCB’s five wins in this season’s tournament.
RCB played against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) yesterday at the Holkar Stadium in Indore where the visitors managed to decimate Ravichandran Ashwin’s men by ten wickets, Umesh Yadav’s brilliant spell of 4-0-23-3 broke the backbone of Punjab’s explosive batting lineup. He picked up the wickets of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle in the fifth over at a time when the duo had already stitched a stand of 36 runs.
“I was backing myself”- Umesh Yadav
Following the scalps, RCB didn’t look back and romped home without dropping much sweat. Yadav also nipped out Andrew Tye in the thirteenth over. Parthiv Patel and Virat Kohli finished the run-chase without losing a wicket and with 71 balls to spare. Umesh was also rewarded with the Player of the Match award. Following the win, the RCB pacer revealed how he managed to execute his plans accordingly.
“I am bowling whatever I was thinking and it has been going well till now. Hoping to carry this form forward. I was backing myself to bowl whatever I have, pace with good line and length to cramp the batsman. I feel that if I don’t do that, I’m lacking in confidence,” Umesh was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.
“We just keep discussing how to use the new ball well (on his partnership with Southee) because if we can take early wickets, it will ease the pressure off the other bowlers. We also chat a lot about the death overs,” the Vidarbha pacer added.
