English fast bowler Tom Curran had a terrific ODI series against Australia after his side succumbed horrendously to the hosts in the Ashes. That rendition by the youngster made the world take notice of his ability and once Kolkata Knight Riders lost their talismanic pacer Mitchell Starc, they roped Curran as a replacement.
He thus far has played 2 games for the franchise and things haven’t gone the way he would’ve liked. He conceded way too many runs, but he got some crucial wickets. The youngster has the ability to swing the ball at a decent pace and will be a force to reckon with in the times to come.
Talking to Sky Sports about his experience in the IPL, Curran says it’s an unbelievable tournament. He also was fascinated with the huge crowd turn-ups and he hoped that the Kolkata Knight Riders can keep the winning momentum.
“The experience has been unbelievable. The first two games didn’t go as well as I’d have liked but hopefully, I’ll get better. It’s an unbelievable country and the grounds are full on most occasions. A lot of people said me it’s an incredible tournament and in the ground, we have to shout to get the attention, it’s that loud. Our home ground Eden Gardens especially is unbelievable and hopefully we can keep the winning our games,” Curran said.
The IPL decision was a no-brainer: Curran
The young fast bowler had to choose between IPL and County stint with Surrey. He eventually chose to play the IPL. He said that it’s the correct decision for him personally as he wants to improve his ability to bowl with the white ball. England will be playing a lot of ODIs this coming English summer and that’s one of the main reasons behind Curran taking this decision.
“It was hard to choose between County and IPL, but I believe it’s the right decision for me personally. We have a big white ball season coming up back in England I want to get better as a bowler with the white ball by developing certain facets. Hence, it’s a no-brainer for me to come and play in the IPL,” He explained.
When asked about the hectic scheduling in the tournament, “It’s just four overs in T20 cricket and obviously, it’s high-intensity cricket in IPL. We have a great backroom staff and things have gone pretty well so far.
On getting a chance to work with legends like Heath Streak and Jacques Kallis, “It’s an unbelievable experience to work with these people. It’s an amazing coaching staff. It’s a great setup and I’m enjoying myself.
He also complimented Andre Russell as one of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball. “Didn’t get a chance to bowl at Andre Russell, but he’s quite a clean striker. The sound that comes off his bat is amazing. You need not look at the ball, it’s certainly going over the boundary,” He concluded.
