The 11th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is finally underway. Although everyone seems to be excited about the league, one question has been haunting the RCB fans ever since the auction. The Royal Challengers Bangalore decided not to buy Chris Gayle in the auction this year. This came as quite a surprise as Gayle has handed over the franchise many memorable victories in the past.

Chris Gayle is someone who can win you two or three games on his own. He is absolutely a dangerous batsman and often sends shivers down the spines of bowlers. However, he hasn’t been as effective in the recent times. RCB’s skipper Virat Kohli revealed the reason why the management decided not to buy Chris Gayle.

RCB considered the future ahead of Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle isn’t in the best of forms with the bat. Also, the age is not on the big man’s side and there is an uncertainty about his future. Considering these factors, Virat Kohli said that the team has decided not to utilize Chris Gayle’s services this time around.

“He has done a great job for RCB over the past few years but looking at the team dynamics for the next three years the decision was taken. We thought of infusing new people who will give us the kind of balance we require,” Virat said.

“I do not want to take anything away from Chris as we just decided to go in with the balance that can sustain the team in the next three years. We did not want to be relying on two or three people all the time,” he added. These comments from Kohli certainly came at the back of RCB’s performances last year. The team heavily relied on their batsman and didn’t have enough in the bowling to win games.

RCB had a disastrous season last year and ended last on the points table after finishing second in 2016. Chris Gayle didn’t play in the majority of the games last year. Nothing seemed to work for the team. They were also bowled out just for 49 runs against KKR at Eden Gardens where they’ll be playing their first game this year on Sunday.
