Kings XI Punjab was one of the most active franchises during the IPL auction this year which held in January. They were trying to snap up some of the best players going around in the T20 cricket and finally settled into the squad of 21 players for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Recently, they announced Ravi Ashwin as the skipper of the team for the 2018 season and also revealed some of their strategies. However, Virender Sehwag has now revealed the wicketkeeping options KXIP possess for the cash-rich T20 league this year.
Sehwag is the mentor of the franchise but mostly takes the tactical decisions related to cricket for them. It was his decision to pick Ashwin as the leader of the pack despite having Yuvraj Singh in the team. Though it was surprising it will be interesting to see the way the offie will lead the side which is a nice blend of experience of youth. The franchise would be eager to change their fortunes after qualifying for the final of the tournament in 2014. They would love to go one step better under the leadership of Ashwin.
Who are the wicketkeepers?
Virender Sehwag revealed KL Rahul and Akshdeep Nath as their wicketkeeping options in the upcoming season of the Indian T20 league. “Many of our fans were thinking that we don’t have any wicketkeepers in our squad. I think KL Rahul and Akshdeep are the wicket-keepers and have done the job before. I don’t think we don’t need any extra player in the side who can play as the wicket-keeper,” he said after going live on Facebook earlier on Monday.
He also cleared that Rahul is ready to don the gloves behind the stumps for the team after the newly appointed spoke with him about the same. “Ashwin has talked with KL Rahul regarding the wicketkeeping and he has agreed to do the job. But in case if he is not able due to some reason, we have Akshdeep Nath who plays Ranji Trophy for UP and is an experienced wicket-keeper. Yes, we don’t have any flamboyant wicket-keeper but we are concentrating more on winning the matches this year,” Sehwag concluded.
