IPL 2018, Week 3: Top Five Expensive Fails of the Week

With another exciting week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) coming to an end, there were some hits and misses for each game. While some did the unthinkable, some were far from it. While someone like Ankit Rajpoot who was bought for 3 Cr justified his price tag twice in a row, some big names who were bought for big bucks were far from their best in the last week.

From Match 17 to Match 26, a lot changed – Sunrisers Hyderabad defended low scores twice, Mumbai Indians continued to lose track, Royal Challengers Bangalore messed up again, Chennai Super Kings dominated yet another thriller, the leadership roles changed in Delhi Daredevils but the following players disappointed.

1. Ravindra Jadeja (retained for 7 Cr)

The Chennai Super Kings opted to retain Ravindra Jadeja ahead of local boy Ravichandran Ashwin in the IPL auction. While several of CSK’s on-field and off-the-field gambles have worked so far, their persistence of Jadeja hasn’t yielded the same results as they would have expected to. It was clear by MS Dhoni’s words before the auction that he was going to give Jadeja more opportunities with the bat in this season.

Dhoni stood by his words but Jadeja is yet to repay that faith. Apart from the six against Kolkata Knight Riders in a last-over heist, it is hard to figure out any noteworthy contribution from Jadeja in the field. However, that is just about his batting. Even with the ball, Jadeja has not been able to show any reason behind why he is a perennial feature in the Playing XI. In the 6 matches CSK has played so far, he has picked only one wicket. It is true he hasn’t bowled his full quota of overs in every match either but one of the reasons for that is his ineffectiveness.
