2. Chris Woakes (bought for 7.40 Cr)
For a team that has the reputation to go all out on its players in the auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore did well to limit themselves from going overboard in the auction by spending a big amount on Chris Woakes only. Or did they? They couldn’t afford to go all out for any player because they were already spending a major amount by retaining Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and Sarfaraz Khan. However, it now appears like RCB chose the wrong guy to bag for a big price.
Make no mistake, Woakes featured in the leading wicket-takers list for quite some time as well, he has the wickets to his name too but how effective he has been and how much justice he has done to his tag of an all-rounder will only be visible if you have watched him. Even though he was bowled out several times before the ultimate death overs, he hasn’t been able to counter RCB’s death bowling problems even when he had the chance and he has been very expensive, in general too. As a result, we saw him getting benched against Chennai Super Kings.
