The Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) lost the most important game of the season against the Mumbai Indians (MI) despite KL Rahul’s heroic knock of 94 runs. He opened the innings along with Chris Gayle in a steep chase of 187 runs and then carried on until the penultimate over before Jasprit Bumrah got him. His wicket turned the game on its head dramatically as the defending champions pounced on and sealed the must-win encounter by 3 runs. However, Rahul won the hearts with his heroics and later he also gifted his match award to the fan.
Rahul has been in exceptional form this season and has won games single-handedly for his team. He owned the Orange Cap with his scintillating batting as well and has amassed a whopping 652 runs in 13 innings so far in the tournament. He has smashed all the runs at an average of 59.27 and an amazing strike-rate of 160.99.
Rahul gifts his award to the fan
KL Rahul played one of the best T20 innings ever while keeping the hosts on the edge of their seats. He, along with Aaron Finch had brought Punjab on the cusp of the victory with a 111-run stand but the latter’s fall proved to be the undoing of the visitors. Rahul was left alone to do the job even as he unfurled some of the unorthodox shots for the first time in his career. But in the end, the middle-order once again crumbled under the pressure and failed to seal the game.
The dejected KL Rahul was seen sitting in the dugout cursing himself for not finishing the game but his knock earned him the ‘Stylish Player of the Match’ award. However, he was least bothered about it as he had failed to finish the game and while returning to the dressing room he gifted his trophy to the fan sitting in the stands. While the star players often ignore the fans who are chanting their names, Rahul’s gesture was heart-winning and grabbed the eyeballs of many.
