Dinesh Karthik (Kolkata Knight Riders)
Dinesh Karthik was made the full-fledged captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) this year replacing a successful Gautam Gambhir and although his captaincy came under the scanner on more than one occasion, Karthik has done well with his batting this IPL.
Karthik, 32, has played a leading role in KKR’s batting performance, controlling the game on several occasions as the situation demanded. He is the highest scorer for the golden-purple men with 412 runs in 13 matches (average 51.50 and with the strike rate of 152.59 which are by far his best in all IPLs since 2008), trailing Dhoni by just one run.
Karthik, one of those players who has been in the reckoning for national duty for a long time despite not being a regular Team India member, has also made three stumpings and took 11 catches behind the wickets.
The KKR have come back into the race for the playoffs by winning two crucial back-to-back matches and that creates more opportunity for Karthik to excel further as a player and improve as a skipper.
