IPL 2018: Yuvraj Singh loves the new Kings XI Punjab jersey
Although Yuvraj is rather out of form, Sehwag believes that on his day, the veteran player can win matches for his side.
Not too many things have gone right for veteran batsman Yuvraj Singh in the recent past. Since the Windies tour in 30th June 2017, the 36-year-old has been on the sidelines from the Indian team due to fitness issues and inconsistent form. Apart from one fifty for Punjab against Delhi in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy 2018, the southpaw has no other recent show with the bat worth talking about.
Not retained by the Sunrisers but picked by Punjab
However, he was picked by the Kings XI Punjab at his base price of Rs 2 crore after no other franchise showed any interest in the champion player. Yuvraj had begun his IPL career with the Punjab outfit. The Punjabi cricketer tweeted for his new team, stating how he loved their newly unveiled jersey for the upcoming season.
“Punjabi in my heart, Punjabi in my soul. Love the new jersey for @lionsdenkxip and look forward to taking the field for the Lions yet again #RedForever,” his tweet read.
The telecast of the event in which the new jersey was unveiled was hosted live from Punjab’s social media accounts. The side will be captained by Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who last played for the Rising Pune Supergiant in IPL 2016 and for the Chennai Super Kings before that. The Kings will be mentored by Virender Sehwag and coached by former Australian batsman Brad Hodge.
Although Yuvraj is rather out of form, Sehwag believes that on his day, the veteran player can win matches for his side.
“He’s not in the Indian team, but Yuvraj is still an amazing player. His talent is intact. Even a current India player can lose form. I don’t think we’ll get a player like him again. If his form his good, he’s a match-winner,” the former opener said at an IPL promotional event.
