IPL 2018: Yuvraj Singh worried with KL Rahul and his impeccable batting
KL Rahul slammed the fastest half-century in IPL history, and Yuvraj Singh's record is on the line.
KL Rahul and his brutal hitting powered Kings XI Punjab to a flying start to their season. As Sehwag promised, the Sunday evening started off with entertainment and aggression. Winning the toss, the home team decided to bowl first. With veteran Gautam Gambhir scoring a half-century, Delhi Daredevils posted a decent score on board. Skipper, Gambhir managed to score 55 before getting run-out.
After Gambhir’s mix-up, Rishab Pant played a cameo. He scored 28 of 13 with four fours and a six. Towards the end, Morris managed to finish the innings on a high note. His 27 helped the touring party reach 166 after losing 7 wickets. The score seemed decent only till KL Rahul came out all guns blazing. The youngster amassed 51 runs in just 16 balls which included 6 fours and four massive sixes. Punjab lost their first wicket in the fourth over as Mayank Agarwal returned to the pavilion after scoring just 7 runs.
Rahul’s record half-century:
KL Rahul’s dominance reminded of the legend, Virender Sehwag. Rahul reached to his fifty in just fourteen balls which is a record for the fastest fifty in IPL cricket. The KXIP batsman broke the previous joint record of Narine and Yusuf Pathan which was 15 balls. Rahul hit 4, 6, 6, 4, 4 against Amit Mishra to bring up his blistering half-century.
Speaking after the match, Rahul expressed his happiness on his performance. He also said breaking T20 records makes him happy especially after being branded as a Test player. “Yes, it does feel good. For years I’ve been branded as a ‘Test’ cricketer, so it’s good for me to be up there creating history and breaking records. I feel happy and hopefully, I can continue,” the star opener said.
Yuvraj worried about his record:
Talking about the record, Rahul mentioned that he didn’t realize reaching to his fifty. He also shared his small conversation with Yuvraj Singh regarding the record. As soon as Yuvi joined Rahul, he told Rahul that he was a bit worried about his 11 ball half-century record. Yuvraj hit a record fifty off 11 balls against England in 2007 WT20 which is still the fastest T20 half-century.
“It’s great to have records. I didn’t really realize I had got the record or got to fifty,” added Rahul. “I was just waiting for the ball to come out of the bowler’s hand and was striking it, so once I got there and everyone started clapping is when I realized I got to fifty. When Yuvi (Yuvraj Singh) came to bat, he told me, ‘I was worried for a bit that you were going to break my 11-ball fifty records!” Rahul said in the press conference.
