IPL 2019: 3 Players who can replace Shikhar Dhawan in SRH squad
One Indian and two foreigners in the list.
The Thursday evening saw the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises putting forward their list of retained and released players, as yesterday was the deadline for the same. Most of the teams preferred to stick with the majority of their earlier-picked bunch while a few decided to discharge plenty, giving them an opportunity to reconstruct the team in mid-December-scheduled auctions.
The runners-up of the last edition, Sunrisers Hyderabad had earlier traded one of their core members, Shikhar Dhawan to Delhi Daredevils for Abhishek Sharma, Vijay Shankar, and Shahbaz Nadeem. They also released eight other players yesterday and now have another INR 9.70 crore left in their purse.
David Warner’s availability will surely help SRH but they would want to find a replacement for Dhawan who had a good couple of seasons with them. There are various options who they can look out for and add fuel to their batting setup. In this slide, we have found the three most appropriate replacements for the veteran in SRH squad.
1. Gautam Gambhir
Once a stable part of the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir is no way near to the national scenes currently. He, however, had a scintillating Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring over 500 runs in the ten matches. The 37-year-old helped Delhi make it to the finals of the List-A tournament. Last season, he captained Delhi Daredevils but decided to sit out mid-way through the event due to the team’s unimpressive run.
Meanwhile, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s search of replacing Dhawan in the squad could be well completed by the experience of Gambhir. The Delhi based batsman can play the sheet anchor’s role for them as they have a free flow run-scorer like David Warner as the other opener.
