Among all the domestic tournaments across the globe, the Indian Premier League (IPL) is deemed to be one of the most popular. The stands remain jam-packed throughout the event and the decibel levels engulf the venues. However, this time around, India may not have the privilege of hosting the mega event owing to the reason that election in the country is scheduled to take place during that time.

At this point in time, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and South Africa are the most likely venues for the IPL. Nevertheless, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to come out with an official announcement. Another country that could play host to the extravaganza is Bangladesh. In our article, we take you through three reasons why next year’s IPL can take place in the neighboring country.

Albeit Bangladesh have blown hot and cold over the years in international cricket, their fandom hasn’t taken a dip by any stretch of the imagination. The people swarm in when the Tigers play and there’s no dearth of the craze surrounding cricket in the nation. Even when Bangladesh play outside their home country, their supporters remain present at the venues and scream their lungs out for the team to win.

The same was palpable when Mashrafe Mortaza’s men played the Asia Cup in the UAE when the Bangladesh national flag filled the stadiums. Among Bangladesh players, Shakib Al Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman are likely to play in the IPL and people would love to see two of their stars ply their trade. Moreover, the presence of big names from other countries can also attract the audience there.

Timings with India

Bangladesh is a part of the Indian sub-continent along with a few other nations. Therefore, both countries share pretty similar timings. India is behind from Bangladesh by half an hour as far as timing is concerned. When Test matches are played in Bangladesh, the matches get telecasted in India at approximately 09:00 in the morning with the local time being 30 minutes later at 09:30 AM.

As far as the IPL is concerned, matches on weekdays (Monday to Friday) are slotted in the evening, so that people can watch them after a tough day at their workplaces. Only the weekend gets to witness a couple of matches, one of them being telecasted in the afternoon at 04:00 PM. Hence, adjusting to the match timings isn’t expected to be an issue for the fans and the organisers of both nations.

Similar playing conditions

Be it India, Pakistan, UAE, Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, the pitches and weather conditions don’t have a whole lot of difference. They are generally good for batting with some of the tracks offering quite a significant amount of purchase to the spinners. The IPL generally gets to see a number of high-scoring matches and Bangladesh have decks, which can put forth some exciting battle between bat and ball.

In India, the summer season mostly begins from March and continues until June. The humidity and temperature are at its peak during that time. Players get drenched in sweat after playing and the scenario isn’t any different in Bangladesh during that time of the year. Adjusting to the conditions may not be an arduous task for the cricketers as they are accustomed to playing in the hot and humid conditions.
