IPL 2019: 5 Retained players who will get lesser bids if released
All these players were retained by their franchises despite not performing well in the last season.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction for the upcoming season will soon be taking place where reportedly 70 players will go under the hammer. The teams have already retained some of their core players and will be looking to build their team around them during the event. However, a lot of eyebrows were raised when some of the players were retained by a particular team despite not performing to the expectations in the previous season.
After grabbing a huge amount in the auction earlier this year, they under-performed significantly but still the franchises have shown faith in them for one more year. Having said that, they could’ve also released such cricketers and get them back in the auction at a relatively lesser price which could’ve saved them their purse to a large extent.
Here we bring you five such players who will get lesser bids if they would’ve released by their respective teams:
1. Kieron Pollard (Mumbai Indians)
Kieron Pollard has played only for the Mumbai Indians (MI) and probably that sentiment helped him get back to the same franchise in the previous season. But he failed to live up to the expectations and had to be dropped at some stage during the tournament. Pollard is known to be the veteran in the shortest format but his hitting skills are waning with every passing year. 2018 season was one of the poor years for him in the cash-rich league and could’ve been released by MI.
Pollard featured in only nine matches for his team and could only muster 133 runs which is too mediocre for a player standard. Moreover, he is not bowling much these days as well which doesn’t lessens the value the Caribbean used to add to the team. Even the franchise must’ve felt the same after using the Right to Match (RTM) card for him in auction by spending a whopping amount of Rs 5.4 Crores. He will definitely get lesser bids in the auction if released by Mumbai.
