Mumbai all-rounder, Shivam Dubey’s journey from an overweight, fat boy to a tall, fit cricketer is an inspirational one. This 25-year-old can smash the ball a long distance and can deliver with the bat as per the demands of the situation. This youngster had to miss out on cricketing action from 14 to 19 years of age due to “personal family reasons”. However, he made his comeback onto the field in a grand style and boy isn’t he lighting up the fireworks with his heroics.

“Dubey Ji, aap apne bete ko kya khilate ho (what do you feed your son), he hits such big sixes!” Chandrakant Pandit, former India player and Mumbai coach, remembers telling this to his father a few years ago. In the four Ranji innings this season, Shivam has scored 309 runs at an average of 103. The youngster has already struck two centuries (including one of the first day of Round 4 against Gujarat after his side was down to 74/5) in the ongoing season and scores at a fair clip even in the longer format of the game.

With the ball, he picked up 8 wickets in three innings including a seven-wicket haul. Furthermore, Dubey has smashed Pravin Tambe for five sixes in an over in the Mumbai T20 League. In T20s, he scores at a strike rate close to 150 which is quite exceptional.
