Umesh Yadav is currently going through a very rough phase in his cricketing career. After some poor performances for India, he didn’t find a place in the 15-man squad for the most-awaited World Cup in England and Wales. To add to his woes, he’s had a terrible campaign in this edition’s Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
In 10 matches, the speedster picked up only eight wickets and leaked runs at an alarming economy rate of 9.60. His best figures of 3/36 came against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Bengaluru. Once, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) needed 26 runs off the last over with MS Dhoni in the middle and Yadav gave away 24 runs almost conceding the game to the opposition. Quite expectantly, he isn’t oozing confidence after the indifferent shows.
The RCB got eliminated after their match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) was abandoned due to rain. Umesh gave away only 10 runs in his one over. He spoke after the contest and said that despite his best efforts, the results are not showing. The Nagpur-born bowler admitted that he has strained to find his rhythm in the past few months and things have gone horribly wrong for him in this period.
It is difficult to elaborate because it is part of every bowler
“Everybody is saying I am not bowling well and why is this happening? Because in last two years I continued playing all formats at the domestic level, but after that, I have not played too many ODIs or T20s. I am just picked for 2 to 3 games, then again get dropped.
“Everyone is thinking I am not giving my best, but it is not. It happens for every fast bowler,” Umesh was quoted as saying in the New Indian Express. Moreover, the pace bowler also went on to say that things aren’t going well for him this year and that is the reason he has lost his rhythm.
“It is difficult to elaborate because it is part of every bowler. Sometimes, we have a good or a bad day. I think this is the phase wherein from 4 to 6 months I am not that accurate. Sometimes too many things goes into your head. Sometimes, there definitely is confidence, but other times I feel I am not having my time this year. Hence, that is the problem this year. Actually, my rhythm and everything is not going my way,” the fast bowler added.
