IPL 2019: Aakash Chopra admires KKR for their consistent run in the tournament
The Knights won their last match against the Royals.
The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), after vanquishing the Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, have achieved the no. 1 spot in the IPL points table. The team, with the help of this victory, continued its winning streak and registered the fourth victory of the tournament. The Dinesh Karthik-led franchise has, thus far, been utterly consistent in the league and now just requires four more wins in the rest 9 IPL games to almost cement its place in the playoffs.
In yesterday’s encounter, the Knight Riders locked horns with the Royals at the exemplary Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The visitors won the toss and elected to field first. Ajinkya Rahane and Jos Buttler came out to start the proceedings for RR. Howbeit, they couldn’t get the team off to a good start as Ajinkya Rahane was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna in the 2nd over itself.
This dismissal was followed by a slow partnership between Butler and Steve Smith which eventually ended after the former’s wicket during the middle overs. Harry Gurney soon struck with the wicket of Rahul Tripathi, right before the start of the death overs. This resulted in Smith, playing the role of an anchor in the initial part of the slog overs. Howbeit, the Aussie-cricketer finally took the charge in the latter part and helped the Royals post a respectable total of 139 in their 20 overs.
In reply, the Kolkata Knight Riders got off to a blistering start as both the openers i.e. Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine started to do the damage with a very high tempo. The duo scored 65 runs in the first power play and brought the required under their control. Amidst this blitz, the RR bowlers scalped a couple of wickets but making a comeback became a road too far for the team. In the end, it was disappointing for the blue army fans as their team was eventually annihilated by Dinesh Karthik’s men in just 14 overs.
KKR have a good bowling unit led by a good captain
After the Kolkata Knight Riders clinched off a clinical win and secured the first spot in the points table, the cricket pundits and aficionados from all over the world showered heaps of praises on the team. In the meantime, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra also had his take over KKR’s consistent run in the tourney.
The Indian commentator explained how the franchise is going from strength to strength and the overseas X-factors are earning them a huge success. He posted a tweet on his twitter handle which read, “#KKR is going from strength to strength. Good bowling unit led by a good captain. And the X-Factors in overseas players. ☺️🤗 #RRvKKR #IPL”
Here is the tweet:
The Kolkata Knight Riders are now all set to take on the second-ranked Chennai Super Kings in two consecutive encounters. The team will undoubtedly like to better its records against CSK and retain the first position in the points table.
