Defending Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) missed the service of their regular captain MS Dhoni once again on Friday as the veteran wicketkeeper-batsman was down with fever. This is the second instance of this IPL that Dhoni had to sit out for a game. Suresh Raina has shoulder captain responsibility. The southpaw failed to guide the Yellow army to victory the last time he led against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the CSK have won eight of their 11 matches so far and are already in the playoffs.

On Friday, Ambati Rayudu was seen keeping for the CSK. In the previous game that Dhoni had missed, English cricketer Sam Billings had kept but he has now flown back to his country. Rayudu also caught the Quinton de Kock of the bowling of Deepak Chahar after Raina won the toss in the home game against Mumbai Indians (MI) and sent them to bat first.

Rayudu added a dimension through keeping, says Aakash Chopra

Former India opener Aakash Chopra came up with a tweet mentioning about Rayudu’s keeping. He said by donning the gloves, Rayudu added another dimension to the game. It was the Hyderabad batsman who had popularised the word “dimension” after he failed to make the Indian squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup. Rayudu was backed as India’s probable No.4 batsman in the big event but a slump in form this year saw him failing to make it to the squad eventually. Rayudu was replaced with newcomer Vijay Shankar as the No.4 batsman and the decision had led to polarised opinions.

Rayudu let loose his frustration after being overlooked and said in a sarcastic tweet that he had ordered for a pair of 3D goggles to watch the WC. This he took an indirect dig at the selectors after chief selector MSK Prasad had backed Vijay as a “three-dimensional cricketer” for his batting, bowling and fielding abilities.
