IPL 2019: AB de Villiers feels Virat Kohli has the courage and skills to lead from the front
Kohli and AB two of the best cricketers have always looked up to and praised one another constantly.
Virat Kohli was at the center of one of the most emphatic wins that Royal Challengers Bangalore registered in the ongoing IPL 2019. RCB defeated KKR by 10 runs, as Virat led them from the front with an amazing century off 58 balls. He was ably aided by Moeen Ali who scored 28-ball 66 runs innings, as the duo added 90 runs for the third wicket.
One man who was happy to watch RCB win the match was AB de Villiers, who is Kohli’s partner-in-crime most times. De Villiers, unfortunately, missed the match against KKR after he was hit on the helmet by a bouncer from Jasprit Bumrah in the match against Mumbai Indians and was diagnosed with a mild concussion.
AB de Villiers in awe of ‘irrepressible’ Virat Kohli
Virat Kohli had a successful IPL 2019, but his team’s failures overshadowed the innings, but with his amazing century against KKR, which was his fifth in Indian Premier League history got the required recognition as it led his team to a win.
“Virat has endured a challenging campaign, like all of us at RCB — although we’re not dead yet in this tournament — but he produced the perfect T20 innings in Kolkata, batting from the first over until the last ball, scoring a masterful century, leading his team to victory,” De Villiers wrote in his column for TOI.
He analyzed Kohli’s innings and called it an anchoring knock in the initial part of the game, giving freedom to Moeen who could take on the KKR bowlers, especially their spinners. The English batter hammered Kuldeep Yadav for 27 runs in one over. When Ali fell, Kohli took over and slammed his last 45 runs in just 16 balls to complete his hundred before falling on the last ball of RCB innings.
De Villiers further paid homage to Kohli the captain writing, “He captains RCB and India from the front, with skill and courage in equal measure. As such, he lives and plays under intense scrutiny, with every act, decision and word dissected and debated by tens of millions. It is my privilege to watch him work, to watch him practice and plan, to watch him perform and, as a man and cricketer, he has my total admiration.”
