IPL 2019: AB de Villiers says IPL party continues, but RCB are stuck outside
"We can hear the music and we can see the lights," de Villiers said.
The dearth of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) performance in the ongoing IPL 2019, has been written to death. The lack of batting support to the duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers, the abysmal fielding standards by the RCB players and the absolutely dismal bowling performance by their fast bowlers, everything has been detailed by almost everyone.
With only 1 win out of eight matches, RCB touched rock bottom — 8th spot — on the points table and have next to no hopes of barging into the playoffs. Even De Villiers, who showed some grit, knows this. He had admitted that the team is almost out of contention for playoffs after crashing to another defeat against Mumbai Indians.
We can hear the music and we can see the lights
“We can hear the music and we can see the lights but, so far, we just can’t find a way to get inside and join the party. It’s incredibly frustrating. CSK lead the way, but most of the other teams are bunched together on the table, generally losing as many games as they are winning,” AB de Villiers wrote in his column for the Times of India.
“Our squad is as motivated and talented as any, and yet RCB still seem to be stuck on the outside, nose pressed up against the window, desperately trying to get into the mix, and start singing and dancing,” he added.
RCB won their first game against KXIP in Mohali, bringing an end to their six-game losing streak. But everything went to normal, as MI defeated them ruthlessly at the Wankhede Stadium. De Villiers is the highest run-getter for the Royal Challengers in this IPL with 307 runs in 8 matches with four half-centuries and the best score of 75. He averages 51.16 and has a strike rate of 154.27.
When compared, skipper Virat Kohli has 278 runs at a strike rate of 124.66 and Parthiv Patel has 219 runs at a strike rate of 130.55; the only three players with over 200 runs in the tournament for the team.
“So, the IPL party continues, and we are still stuck outside, still just a handful of wins adrift at the foot of the table. Adding injury to insult on a big night in Mumbai, I was left with a pounding headache after being hit by a Bumrah bouncer,” De Villiers concluded.
