IPL 2019: Alzarri Joseph gives his best even at the nets: Ishan Kishan

There are very few debuts seen in the 12-year history of IPL better than that of Alzarri Joseph’s. The 22-year old fast-bowler from the Caribbean was not even picked by any team in the auction this season. He, however, got a lucky break when Mumbai Indians roped him in to replace their injured pacer Adam Milne.

And it did not take long for the lanky pacer Joseph to make a mark. The right-arm pacer, who was a part of the West Indies team that won the Under-19 World Cup in 2016, marked his arrival in style by registering the best bowling figures (6/12) of all time in the history of the IPL.

Mumbai Indians were staring down the barrel after managing just 136 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, Alzarri picked up an unbelievable six wickets for just 12 runs to blow away the Sunrisers as they were all out for a paltry 96. He broke Sohail Tanvir‘s record of best bowling figures in the IPL. The Pakistan pacer had picked up 6 for 14 more than a decade ago in 2008 while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural season

Alzarri might be new for many a players in the IPL but his Mumbai Indians teammate Ishan Kishan is well familiar to him. How can Ishan forget the man who was part of the playing eleven that beat India in the final of the U-19 World Cup three years ago. Speaking to the media, the wicketkeeper-batsman recalled his U-19 days before lauding his work ethics even in the nets.

“In U-19, he did very well. He helped the West Indies to win the final. Now, he is in a different rhythm. He gives his best even at the nets. We get to learn from him,” Ishan said.

Alzarri looking better:

Ishan further said that Alzarri has improved and is looking a better bowler than what he was during the U-19 days.

“He’s bowling well. Ups and downs are the part of the game, but he is shy and keeps within himself. It’s a good thing. He is looking better than the U-19 days. The line and length has improved and he learned how to read batsman. That’s a plus point for our team,” Ishan said.
