IPL 2019: Andre Russell admits to wife Jassym that he wants to impress her every match
Russell muscled KKR to another win, against MI this time.
The IPL 2019 has been all about Andre Russell and his ability to hit the sixes as far and as many as he can. The Jamaican has set the tournament on fire with his hitting abilities and that as on display against Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens the other day. In a must-win match for KKR, Russell, Lynn, and Gill took apart the MI bowling attack and put on 232 runs on board.
Russell was named the Man of the Match for his 80* which was studded with 8 sixes. Earlier, Shubman Gill (76 in 45 balls) and Chris Lynn (54 in 29 balls) had given KKR an amazing start by adding 96 runs in first 10 overs. Then it was all Russell show from there on, as he changed the course of innings in his 40-ball stay which also had 6 fours. This match was also special for the Jamaican, as his wife Jassym was also present at the Eden Gardens to watch the carnage against hapless MI bowlers.
‘Want to impress my wife every match’: Andre Russell
“It was a special night for me as well. It’s my birthday. I always feel pressure because I want to make sure the fans are happy and I want to impress my beautiful wife (with) every match,” Russell was quoted saying in a video on IPLT20.com.
Russell, before the MI match, had taken the KKR team management to task revealing that the atmosphere of the team was unhealthy, as the bad decisions made by them was the reason behind KKR’s six straight defeats. He also blamed the weak bowling lineup of KKR, which, in his opinions couldn’t even contain a weaker batting lineup of Rajasthan Royals in their previous match.
“It’s an emotional feeling. It was the last game of the season in Kolkata. We knew that we had to leave the fans who have been giving us great support over the last six days with a bang. We surely did, won by 34 runs,” Russell was quoted as saying.

“It felt good. I knew you were going to do that because today is the last match in this ground (Eden Gardens). I expected that from you. I really had my heart in my hands when you were hitting those big sixes,” Jassym said in reply to her husband.
