The preparations for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season are in full flow. While the franchises are pondering over the trading window which is open for a week, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for the possible countries to host the tournament. With the general elections set to take place in India next year, the IPL is most likely to shift out of the country. The BCCI is set to send its recce team to South Africa regarding the same who will analyse the preparedness of the rainbow nation.

According to the reports in Mumbai Mirror, a two-member team is expected to leave Mumbai in a day or two to explore the situation of the league being moved to South Africa next year. The recce is likely to last for 10 days after which the board might take the final decision. The team of Hemang Amit and Navneet Kaur will travel to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth to discuss the requirements for the 45-day tournament.

Also, the two boards want to take care that the tournament will not clash with the domestic matches in South Africa. The recce team will also break the journey to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) while returning from South Africa and discuss the possibility of hosting some of the IPL matches as well.

First 20 games in India?

The BCCI is eagerly waiting for the Indian Government to announce the election dates and if the situation is like 2014-15, then the first 20 games are likely to be played in India after which the next 20 matches will take place in the UAE. The IPL will then return to the country it belongs to for the business end.

If the polls are advanced, then the whole tournament will have to be shifted and then South Africa becomes the favourites to host the cash-rich league as they have done it before 10 years ago. It will be interesting to see if the top Indian players take part in the IPL next season and the same will be the case with the other countries as well.
