IPL 2019: Ben Stokes admires MS Dhoni's 46-ball 75 against RR
MSD's knock pulled CSK out of the pits.
Much like each season, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are on a match-winning spree this year as well. After winning their first two matches, MS Dhoni and co. registered their third win against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. And with that win, CSK now sit right on top of the points table in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Super Kings found themselves in trouble at 27-3 within five overs, but their skipper rescued them with an unbeaten 75 off 46 balls which propelled the total to a competitive 175 runs. The Royals failed to chase down the target, falling short of a much-needed win by just eight runs. 12 runs were needed off the last over but Dwayne Bravo gave away just 3 runs, while also dismissing Ben Stokes.
While lamenting the loss, Stokes was all praises for Dhoni, saying that only the best players in the world can rescue the team the way the former India captain did. “You’ve got to admire how Dhoni takes the game deep (as captain) and gets the job done. Sometimes you’ve just got to hold your hand up and say that the best players in the world can do that, and he certainly showed that tonight.”
Both Rajasthan and Bangalore have lost their first three games
Rajasthan Royals will now take on Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. The Ajinkya Rahane led side have lost all their three opening games and will be desperate to make a comeback. Stokes, however, feels that his team is not completely outplayed, but loses only in crunch moment.
“Look, in our first three games, we’ve put ourselves into really good positions to win all three of them. We know it’s just about winning those crucial moments. That was the last over and unfortunately, we couldn’t cross the line. After losing your first three games, you probably can’t say that you’re taking positives from that but there’s no point in looking back now.”
