Manoj Tiwary has played quite a few games in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and last year, he plied his trade for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). Unfortunately, he was released by the franchise and to add insult to his injury, he went unsold after being registered at a base price of INR 50 lakhs. Then he went on to play for Bengal in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament.

The right-hander Manoj Tiwary notched 203 runs at an average of 20.30 with a top score of 42 against Chattisgarh in Cuttack. Now, the cricketer is most likely to join the Delhi Capitals (DC) after impressing in the trials conducted by the franchise at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

“He spent some quality time at the nets. The management looked impressed with his session at the nets and that is all I can divulge right now,” an official was quoted as saying in Outlook.

Calling it a trial would be unfair

The Capitals suffered a few injury blows, which includes the one of Harshal Patel, who has been ruled out owing to an arm injury. Hence, the Capitals decided to conduct the trials at the iconic venue prior to their upcoming match against the Dinesh Karthik-captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

The official also mentioned that head coach Ricky Ponting and advisor Sourav Ganguly wanted to have at the boys available before zeroing on any decision.

“Calling it a trial would be unfair. You cannot have a trial when the players are just having a hit or bowling some balls at the nets. We are looking at an all-rounder and a batsman. We had around six guys coming in.”

“It is more about giving the management a fair idea of what is available at their disposal. The boys picked won’t be a part of the game against KKR, as it will take some time before they can be eligible to play,” the official added.

The Capitals, captained by Shreyas Iyer, are currently placed at the sixth position of the points table with three wins and as many losses. They won their last match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in Bangalore.
