IPL 2019: Bhuvneshwar Kumar not really worried about his poor form of late
The Meerut-born pacer is yet to pick up a wicket in this IPL.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar occupies a special place in the Indian team and for his IPL team, the Sunrisers Hyderabad. However, the pacer’s wicket-taking ability in the past one year has been a worrying sign for them. Bhuvneshwar had his moments of success in the last 12 months but overall, he has been inconsistent and the injuries he caught up in this period didn’t help his momentum either.
The 2019 IPL didn’t see any change in fortunes for the 29-year-old who went wicketless in each of the first three matches of the competition. He gave away 37 runs in the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and as many as 55 against the Rajasthan Royals as Sanju Samson was clearing the fence at will in the death overs against him during that game.
The other Indian pacers in the SRH ranks in the form of Siddarth Kaul and Sandeep Sharma also didn’t make any notable contributions during the first two matches. The trio was found not using the yorkers more often and instead was delivering the ‘knuckle-balls’. However, the stand-in skipper of the Sunrisers, Bhuvneshwar Kumar felt that the execution of yorkers didn’t quite go as per plans
“We have been using the yorkers, but the only thing is that we are just missing it by just a small margin,” said Bhuvneshwar during the press conference held after their 118-run victory over the RCB team. “We are using the knuckle-balls with respect to the field setting and the batsmen. It is (knuckle-balls) also an important bowling variation that is needed to restrict the batsmen,” he added.
A confident Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Speaking about his current form, Bhuvneshwar was confident of bouncing back strongly. He didn’t express any major worries with regard to his form but stressed about the need for his execution at the death which was one of the major reasons for his expensive figures of late. The 55 runs he conceded against the Royals on Friday were the joint-most ever conceded by him in a Twenty20 game.
“I am not really worried about it (his bowling) as I am not missing those (yorkers) by a big margin. The guy (Samson) who hit me other day was batting in the 80s. I am confident about getting wickets in one match and returning into the rhythm,” he concluded.
