IPL 2019: 'Boht hard Kieron Pollard,' tweets Yuvraj Singh after the match-winning knock
Yuvi was jumping around in joy after the victory.
Leading the Mumbai Indians for the first time ever in the IPL, Caribbean cricketer Kieron Pollard had a fairy tale start. The 31-year-old ended up being the Man of the Match and turned the tables upside down with his knock. All-rounder Yuvraj Singh enjoyed this knock thoroughly and expressed his happiness on Twitter.
Kieron Pollard first won the toss and had no second thoughts about bowling first. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle took the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) off to a terrific start. While it seemed like they’d put a massive total on the board, MI pulled things back with some quick wickets after they got Chris Gayle. However, Rahul never bogged down and registered his first century in the IPL. 54 runs were scored off the last three overs which helped the visitors get to 197/4.
Kieron Pollard aces the steep chase
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, the chase was always going to be tough. The home team did not get to the best of starts. On his much-awaited debut, Siddhesh Lad scored 15 runs from 13 balls. Suryakumar Yadav looked good but was dismissed on 21. Being the skipper, Kieron Pollard took the onus upon himself and came out to bat at number four.
The asking rate, which was always scaling up, never bothered him. The Trinidadian backed his capability and unleashed completely on the night. He was a complete beast and he raced his way to 83 runs off just 31 balls. Pollard was the lone warrior for his team and ensured that he got his team as close as possible to the target. His team completed the chase off the final ball.
Yuvraj Singh, who isn’t even a part of the eleven was elated after the victory. He was seen jumping around in the dressing room. “Pollard pollard pollard !!’! Boht hard boht hard boht hard !!!!!! @KieronPollard55,” wrote Yuvi in his tweet after the game.
