When it comes to the Indian Premier League (IPL), Brendon McCullum will mostly be remembered for the superlative century, he churned out in the opening match of the inaugural edition against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He scored the runs representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and thereafter, he became one of the most sought-after players in the championship.

He played for quite a few seasons for the Knight Riders and then made a move to the MS Dhoni-captained Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a franchise for which he played brilliantly as well. After CSK was suspended for two seasons, the Otago-born cricketer plied his trade for Gujarat Lions, captained by Suresh Raina. He didn’t disappoint with the bat in hand for that franchise either.

Baz leaves RCB

Last season, he was listed in the auction at a base price of INR 2 crore. As many as three teams- RCB, Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Daredevils (DD) went after him. In the end, the Challengers bagged him for INR 3.6 crores. The 37-year-old experienced campaigner didn’t play every other match in the T20 tournament but made sure that he contributed his bit in the limited opportunities.

McCullum played six matches in which he managed 127 runs at an average of 21.16 with a top score of 43. However, this season, the franchise captained by Virat Kohli, has decided to release him from the squad, which means that the other teams will now have the chance of bagging the retired international cricketer. In the meantime, the Black Cap expressed his gratitude to the franchise.

He also thanked Kohli and wished the team for the upcoming season. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Thanks to the skipper @imVkohli and all the team @RCBTweets for an enjoyable time in last seasons @IPL. All the best for the season ahead fellas,”
