If the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was all about Ambati Rayudu’s scintillating display with the bat that eventually culminated with a recall from the national team. The ongoing season is next to an abysmal show for the 33-year-old. The right-handed batsman has not hit the top gear this year. Such has been his form this season that it perhaps even convinced the selectors to not include him in the World Cup squad.

His constant struggle in this IPL had also given a slight space for Australia international Michael Slater to take a jibe at him. Currently in India as a part of the commentary panel, Slater could not help but have a laugh at the expense of Rayudu. The incident took place during the second qualifier between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals on Friday.

Rayudu completely failed to hit a half-tracker from Axar Patel. The ball was there to be hit but Rayudu made a mess of it. Upon seeing that, Slater ended up taking a jibe at Rayudu. The cricketer-turned-commentator said that even his 6-year-old son could have hit that.

“Even my 6-year-old son could have hit this one for a boundary,” Slater said on mic. Slater’s fellow-commentator was quick to respond to the banter, saying: “With a height like yours, your son would surely.”

Well, Rayudu did well to stay unbeaten till the end and take his side over the line against Delhi.

Chennai Super Kings storm into final

Talking about the game, Chennai Super Kings thrashed Delhi Capitals by six wickets to set up a mouth-watering clash with Mumbai Indians in the final. Bowling first, the Super Kings did extremely well to restrict the Delhi-based outfit to a modest 147 for 9. In fact, at one stage Delhi was reeling at 80 for 5 before Rishabh Pant’s 38-run knock and some handful of big shots from lower-order batsmen took Delhi to a respectable total.

But the total turned out to be too less in the end as Super Kings chased it down comfortably. Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis scored half-ton apiece while adding 81 runs for the first wicket to all but seal Delhi’s fate. The three-time IPL champions eventually reached the finishing line with 1 over to spare.
