Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is arguably the most famed side in the IPL, not only because they are the most consistent team by playing eight finals but also because of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, their captain. Dhoni was back to lead the CSK last year after they returned after serving two years of ban and he straightaway led them to the title win. This year, the CSK are doing a fabulous job in defending their record-equalling third title by winning all three games they have played so far.
The CSK have a strong fan following and dominate the social media space, the credit for which goes to the World Cup-winning former India skipper. According to Twitter India, the Super Kings were the most talked-about team in the first week of the tournament that kicked off in Chennai on March 23. On that day, Chennai bowled out Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore for a paltry score of 70 and won the match by 7 wickets.
In the report released by Twitter India, the engagement count was taken between March 23 and 31 and the CSK were dominating the charts, Timesnownews.com said. The second position went to Rohit Sharma’s Mumbai Indians (MI) while the RCB is in the third position although they are having an entirely opposite journey to that of CSK in this IPL, losing all four games they have played so far. As far as the top trending hashtag was concerned, CSK’s #WhistlePodu was also trending at the top.
Dhoni most discussed cricketer, followed by Kohli and Yuvraj
Among the cricketers, CSK captain Dhoni was the most mentioned player and his 46-ball 75 not out against Rajasthan Royals which guided his side to an eight-run victory earned him more traction. Kohli was following Dhoni while Yuvraj Singh, who is playing for the MI this year and started off with a fifty this season, was the third most talked-about cricketer.
There has been no dearth of drama in this IPL but all of them, the no-ball incident between the RCB and MI at Bengaluru last week remained the most discussed topic. In the second place was the 185-run partnership between Sunrisers Hyderabad openers Jonny Bairstow and David Warner while Dhoni’s knock against the RR came third.
