IPL 2019: Cut-off dates of the overseas players to return home ahead of the World Cup

The Indian Premier League (IPL) seems to be getting affected with the availability of the players in the next season. The ICC Cricket World Cup is set to commence on May 30 while the cash-rich league is likely to run between March 23 and mid-May as the BCCI still hasn’t finalized on the dates of the tournament. Meanwhile, except for New Zealand and the West Indies, all the cricket boards have restricted the availability of their players to feature in the IPL next year.

According to the ESPN Cricinfo, in an email sent to all the franchises on Monday, the cut-off dates from all the cricket boards have been revealed and most of the first-choice Australian players will be available for the least possible time in the tournament. They are scheduled to play the five-match ODI series against Pakistan in the UAE the dates of which are yet to be finalized.

However, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have summoned its World Cup squad players to return home on April 25 while the rest of the players have been permitted to play in the competition until May 19. South African players will have to report for the World Cup camp by May 10 while the Sri Lankan players will return home by May 6. Bangladesh’s players will be available only until April 15 while Ireland’s will stay in India until April 30 as all the cricket boards want their players to be ready for the World Cup.

ACB yet to decide

Meanwhile, Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) is yet to decide their cut-off date to call their players back as even they have qualified for the World Cup and would want them to be fit and raring to go for the event. The likes of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi are their main players who ply their trade in the IPL and there is a possibility of the number increasing in the auction.

In short, none of the overseas players except the retired ones would be present for the playoffs it seems and it will be interesting to see how franchises tackle this situation.
