The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have bolstered their bowling attack by signing the South Africa superstar Dale Steyn. He has replaced the Australian speedster Nathan Coulter-Nile who is suffering from a stiff back at the moment. Coulter-Nile was expected to join the RCB team soon after the ODI series against Pakistan but he didn’t and the speculations started about the cricketer’s participation in the league.
ESPNCricinfo confirmed the news of Dale Steyn joining the RCB camp who had gone unsold in the auction in December last year. Rather, the pace bowler will be playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) after a gap of two years. He last played for the Gujarat Lions during the 2016 season only in one match. Steyn will also be making a comeback to RCB having played 28 matches between 2008 and 2010.
Will he play against KXIP?
With RCB scheduled to play against the Kings XI Punjab in Mohali, it is still unknown whether Dale Steyn will join the team by then. RCB have lost all the six games so far and more of it is due to some poor bowling. As Steyn is breathing fire once again with full fitness, his inclusion comes as a timely boost for the RCB franchise. Virat Kohli will certainly include him in the playing XI but at whose expense will be the questions.
Meanwhile, Steyn recently made a comeback to South Africa and has been performing brilliantly for them. He will be most probably the part of the World Cup squad as well which is set to be announced on April 18. Steyn will be hoping to change RCB’s fortunes with his performances and also impress the selectors in the process. It will also be a sense of Deja Vu for him as he has played for the franchise before.
