IPL 2019: Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas Iyer believes his team can win the tournament
Yesterday, the Capitals beat SRH by 39 runs at the RGI Stadium.
Delhi Capitals (DC), captained by Shreyas Iyer, have finally found some form and change in fortunes with the change in their name, as they moved up to the second spot in the points table of the ongoing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019, after a 39-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday. DC captain Shreyas Iyer is mightily pleased with the performance of the team.
Iyer himself scored 45 runs and added an important 56-run partnership with Rishabh Pant, who made 23 and took DC to 155/7 bowling first against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. The Capitals’ bowlers including Kagiso Rabada and Keemo Paul then decimated the SRH batting, which lost 8 wickets for 15 runs to lose the match by a big margin for a T20 match.
We can win the IPL, says DC captain Shreyas Iyer
“We are believing so and it’s never too far. It started to slow down. Me and Pant had decided so that one of us will take the charge. We got a little cameo from Keemo and Axar and helped us get to that total,” DC skipper Shreyas Iyer was quoted as saying by India Today.
When asked about the composition of the team, Iyer responded by saying: “We have played together (Rabada and himself during U-19 days). It is good to be around each other. It is easy to have that camaraderie. It is a positive thing to carry around. We are positive as well when we chase. We will be backing our abilities.”
Keemo Paul, who picked 3/17 and helped Rabada demolish the SRH batting, was happy with his performance. “This is a dream come true for me. It is the biggest league in the world and why not enjoy it. Went back of the hand and it worked for me. I just tried to adapt to the wicket, just bowled to suit the wicket. The slower balls were gripping. This game is all about confidence. I have not been getting much to contribute with the bat so wanted to contribute more,” Paul was quoted as saying.
