Delhi Capitals are excited about the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 as the new look team that was formerly Delhi Daredevils will make their first appearance in the most popular T20 league in the world. They will play their first match against the three-time champions Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on March 24.
The owners rebranded the team along with a new kit for IPL 2019. They have named Shreyas Iyer as the captain for the full season and have brought in Delhi’s own Shikar Dhawan into the fold. Amongst the many young talents that the Capitals possess like Prithvi Shaw and Rishabh Pant, along with captain Iyer, another young exciting talent that will showcase his skills is West Indian Sherfane Rutherford.
Rutherford shows his immense power and skills
Hailing from Guyana, 20-year-old Sherfane Rutherford came into prominence with his stint in the inaugural season of Global Canada T20 league. He played for the West Indies B team and was the leading run-scorer in the tournament for them, with 230 runs in eight matches. He also hit the only century in the tournament, a score of 134*.
He has also played for Guyana Amazon Warriors in CPL 2018 and Khulna Titans in the Bangladesh Premier League. He made his T20I debut for West Indies against Bangladesh in December 2018. He is also a rather handy medium pace bowler and was bought by the franchise for INR 2 crores in the auction.
Here is the video of Rutherford hitting a big six during practice:

Delhi Capitals, who are owned by JSW group and GMR, underwent a lot of changes in the aftermath of IPL 2018. They had Gautam Gambhir as captain in IPL 2018, but after losing five matches out of first six, he was unceremoniously dropped and reins were given to Shreyas Iyer. Delhi, unfortunately, was unable to make it to the final four.
Delhi franchise has never made it into the finals of the tournament and along with the Royal Challengers Bangalore has never won the IPL as well.
