With the Indian Premier League (IPL) only a few months away, all the eight franchises have started to prepare and Delhi Daredevils are at the forefront not surprisingly. They endured yet another poor season earlier this year and are hoping to make amends in 2019. They have bagged the services of Shikhar Dhawan in one of the biggest trades and now have appointed Mohammad Kaif as the assistant coach of the team. He will assist Ricky Ponting, the head coach, who has been given all the rights to take the decision for the upcoming edition.
“I’m delighted to be part of the Delhi Daredevils and am looking forward to bringing together an exciting group of boys, who are going to make their franchise and country proud. With the management team’s support, I am sure we’ll help nurture many of the younger boys in the squad and make this team a force to be reckoned with in the IPL,” Kaif was quoted as saying by Cricket Next while confirming his appointment.
DD Director welcomes Kaif
Meanwhile, the Delhi Daredevils’ Director Mustafa Ghouse welcomed Mohammad Kaif, who retired from the first-class cricket earlier this year, and hoped that his experience will help the team in many ways in the upcoming IPL edition.
“Kaif brings in huge amounts of experience and a keen understanding of the game to our backroom staff. He’s highly admired on the circuit and will be a natural mentor for the youngsters in the team. We are confident that his leadership and guidance will help the team tremendously in the new IPL season,” he said.
DD ended the last season at the last position and had to deal with the change in leadership as well with the designated captain Gautam Gambhir stepping down from the helm taking the responsibility of the poor performance of the team.
