IPL 2019: Despite early elimination, RCB team remained the top scorers on social media

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 has not only been a hit on the field, but it has been cracking some serious numbers off it as well. The matches were widely and extensively discussed on social media and there emerged a shocking revelation, that Royal Challengers Bangalore beat the likes of Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, to become the most talked about the team during this season.
According to a social media analytics brand, despite all its failures on the field, and finishing at the bottom of the points table; RCB kept the fans engaged and conversing on various social media platforms. It also revealed the most talked about players on the net and to the surprise of many Rishabh Pant won the race against his DC captain Shreyas Iyer, as he got the maximum mentions in the tournament so far.
Here are some of the other highlights of the IPL 2019 social media report
RCB team had the most mentions on social media despite being the least successful team in the tournament. The second spot went to Kolkata Knight Riders, who failed just sort of making it into the playoffs. The team with the least number of social media mentions was Kings XI Punjab.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (20%), Kolkata Knight Riders (18%) and Chennai Super Kings (17%) contributed to more than 50% of the team-specific mentions for IPL. And Twitter was the most used social media platform with 30% of all mentions recorded about the IPL.
KKR with 22%, RCB with 17% and CSK with 16% were the most talked about and actively reference teams on the web space, especially on Twitter and formed the 50% of all the banter on the platform. All of the captains of the majority of teams were the most common mentions on the platform, except Delhi.
MS Dhoni became the first Indian batsman to hit 200 sixes in the Indian Premier League (IPL), and Sachin Tendulkar’s clarification over him being accused of conflict of interest was the most talked about incidents on social media.
On May 10 Chennai taking on Delhi in the second qualifier to see which team faces Mumbai Indians in the finals of the tournament in Hyderabad on May 12, Sunday.
