IPL 2019: Dhawal Kulkarni shell-shocked as Chris Lynn rides his luck in Jaipur
The incident took place in the second ball of the fourth over.
According to the rules, a bowler needs to dislodge the bails in order to dismiss the batsman bowled. And on most of the occasions when the leather makes a connection with the stumps, the bails come off. Dhawal Kulkarni of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) won’t quite agree though, as luck didn’t smile on him during his team’s match against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Jaipur.
At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the Royals could only put up 139 runs on the board on a pitch that looked a tad difficult for batting. On Steve Smith scored a century and somehow helped RR to a total from where they could at least compete. Nevertheless, the hosts, captained by Ajinkya Rahane, had to pick up early wickets in order to keep themselves in the encounter.
Lady luck smiles on Lynn
Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine didn’t die wondering and kept depositing the bowlers all around the part. With RR in desperate need of a wicket, Kulkarni produced a peach in the second ball of the fourth over with the Knight Riders’ score at 37 runs. He churned out a ball that jagged back to a significant extent and the Queenslander Lynn had very little idea about the good delivery.
The batsman dished out an inside-edge and the leather cannoned into the stumps. The dreaded red light for the batsmen also flashed. To everyone’s surprise, the bails didn’t come off and it turned out to be a surprise as the ball smacked the stumps full ferocity. The ball raced away to the boundary for four byes and Lynn would have breathed a sigh of relief after the reprieve.
He even had started walking back to the pavilion and then saw the development taking place. Rahane and Dhawal Kulkarni were having a chat with the umpires and they had to accept the fact that Lynn wasn’t out. In the meantime, Lynn and Narine carried on and piled on more agony for the hosts.
