IPL 2019: Fans demand Rohit Sharma to take over captaincy for the World Cup after RCB's sixth loss
Though it is not going to happen, no one can stop the fans from expressing their views.
Virat Kohli – the captain – has always come under the scanner, may it be while playing for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or for India. Though his record at the helm at the international level is better when compared to the IPL, many believe that the presence of MS Dhoni plays an important role in his decision making.
When it comes to the IPL though Kohli becomes a pale shadow of himself. He is not having a great record while leading his franchise and in the ongoing season, things have turned worse. RCB is yet to win a game after playing six matches and are on the verge of being knocked out very early in the season.
On the flip side, Rohit Sharma has been brilliant for Mumbai Indians (MI) ever since he has taken over the mantle of the team in 2013. The franchise has won three titles (2013,2015 and 2017) and are also looking a good unit this time around.
Rohit for World Cup?
Apart from this, across all the formats, Virat Kohli has now lost nine consecutive matches as a captain of his team. India lost the last three ODIs against Australia before the IPL and his team RCB has lost all the games so far. Though the captain is only as good as his team, the 30-year-old has made quite a few mistakes while leading his side.
And his form at the helm ahead of the World Cup is worrying the Indian fans. Social media is filled with the demands for him to step down from the Indian captaincy and hand over the job to Rohit Sharma who has enough experience now leading Team India. Rather Rohit has led more often in the last 12 months with the selectors opting to manage Kohli’s workload given he is World’s best batsman.
While everyone knows neither Virat Kohli will step down from the captaincy nor the selectors will remove him as it doesn’t make sense at all. But no one can stop the fans from expressing their views on social media platforms like Twitter.
