With less than 24 hours left for the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, all the teams are preparing for the event in order to build a decent squad for the next season. A total of 346 players were shortlisted by them on December 10 after more than 1000 players registered their names. But the IPL Governing Council has added four more names at the eleventh hour to make a list of a total of 350 players.
According to IPL’s official website, Eoin Morgan, Riley Meredith, Mayank Dagar and Pranav Gupta have been added to the list for the auction on Tuesday. England’s captain was surprisingly not shortlisted at the first place and will go under the hammer now with a base price of Rs 2 Crore and will be in the marquee list it seems. The other three players are uncapped with the base price of Rs 40 Lakhs for Meredith and Rs 20 Lakhs for the other two Indian players.
Last minute request from franchises?
This seems to be the last minute request from franchises as these cricketers weren’t the part of the earlier list. With the availability of overseas players also in question, the uncapped players’ demand will be high during the auction. Dagar, Pranav and Riley Meredith are certain to get bids it seems being the last-minute entries.
Morgan’s name is also an interesting addition despite the fact that he will be leaving the tournament on May 2 if he is picked by any of the teams. The IPL auction is known to throw a lot of surprises and it will be interesting to see which players attract a bid.
The franchises will be aware of the players’ deadline to return home and they will certainly look for the ones who will play for the whole season.
