MS Dhoni has been a fulcrum of the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) lineup in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has taken the Yellow Army to great heights, helping them win their third championship last year. However, over the last few days, the veteran hasn’t quite been doing well as far as his health is concerned and therefore missed a couple of matches.
Apart from one instance, every other time CSK have gone on to lose a match when the Jharkhand-born wicketkeeper-batsman hasn’t played. Hence, one can comprehend the significance of his presence in the Super Kings’ presence. After missing the game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, he also didn’t play against the Mumbai Indians (MI).
Even as he missed the SRH game owing to a back spasm, the experienced campaigner was left out of the Mumbai contest as he was suffering from viral fever. In the meantime, Chennai decided to make Ambati Rayudu, the keeper against Rohit Sharma and Co. And being a not so potent keeper, Rayudu made a few mistakes and it ended up costing Chennai the wicket of Even Lewis.
Rayudu fails to spot an edge
The incident took place in the last ball of the mandatory powerplay during Mumbai’s innings. Harbhajan Singh hit the right channels and disturbed the batsmen quite a few times. He conceded only 23 runs in his four-over spell and deserved a wicket. In that ball, Lewis knicked the ball, however, neither the bowler nor the wicketkeeper went up and appealed for the dismissal.
They also didn’t opt to take the Decision Review System (DRS). Later, replays showed a spike when the ball passed the willow. In the meantime, Bhajji felt that the entire CSK team missed Dhoni behind the stumps. He shared pictures of the knick on the story of his official Instagram handle.
