IPL 2019: Harbhajan Singh reveals Shane Watson batted with bloodied knee in final
Shane Watson got 6 stitches after playing final with the bloodied knee as he played a handy knock against MI.
Shane Watson, the man for the big occasion, was once again looking hellbent to take Chennai Super Kings home against Mumbai Indians in this year’s IPL final. The former Australia allrounder had scored a match-winning century in last year’s IPL, helping Super Kings beat Sunrisers Hyderabad and was well on his way to replicate his heroics again. Super Kings were staring down the barrel in their pursuit of 150.
After racing away to 55 for 1 inside the powerplay, the Super Kings lost 3 wickets in quick succession to find themselves 4 down for just 81. With the likes of MS Dhoni, Faf du Plessis back in the hut, it looked all over for the three-time champions against a formidable attack. However, Watson stood firm at one end and kept the Super Kings alive in the game. In the 18th over of the match, he hit Krunal Pandya for three back-to-back sixes to put Super Kings in the driver’s seat. With just 19 runs needed from the final 2 overs, the MS Dhoni-led side was looking a bit ahead of their opponents.
But Watson’s hopes of taking Super Kings over the line came to a disappointing end when he was run out on the fourth ball of the last over. With five runs needed from the last three deliveries, Watson tried to take a double to retain the strike but was run out. The allrounder scored a crucial 80 runs laced with eight fours and four sixes. Watson’s dismissal sealed Super Kings’ fate as they lost the game by 1 run after finishing on 148 for 7.
Harbhajan Singh reveals the reason behind the run-out
Watson’s teammate Harbhajan Singh has now made a stunning revelation that is bound to make everyone respect the knock even more. And perhaps that was the reason behind Watson falling short of his crease while trying to take a double. The veteran-spinner, on Monday, revealed that Watson was batting with a bleeding knee and needed six stitches after the game. Harbhajan also said that the allrounder did not tell anyone about the injury during the match.
‘Can you guys see the blood on his knee… He got 6 stitches after the game… Got injured while diving but continued to bat without telling anyone,’ Harbhajan posted on his Instagram.
After Harbhajan’s post, Super Kings’ official Instagram page too posted about the 37-year-old’s dedication to the team’s mission.
