The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost their first game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season at home against the Delhi Capitals on Friday. Shikhar Dhawan‘s classy knock outplayed the home team as the visitors won the match by seven wickets. However, more than the loss, the KKR had to deal with a big blow. Andre Russell walked off the field during the second innings and it seems that he has been injured.
He struggled while batting as well. His wrist was paining a bit and despite scoring 45 runs off 21 balls, he never looked at ease in the middle. In the second innings, the Caribbean bowled three overs for his team but after delivering his third over, Russell walked away limping. Moreover, the concerns increased, even more, when he skipped the post-match presentation ceremony where he had won one of the match awards.
Russell to miss next game?
Andre Russell’s struggles have put him in serious doubt for the next game. He was in extreme pain throughout the game and it remains to be seen if he will be available for the next game against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Sunday. With two losses on the trot, the KKR needs serious thinking now and their bowlers will have to click.
The over-dependence on Russell is now hurting them and if he misses out for a few games, the road ahead then looks tough for them. Russell has been exceptional for them this season and most importantly consistent but no one has supported him with the bat. It remains to be seen now who will replace him. The reason for the exclusion of Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn is still not known and things are not looking good for the KKR.
They lost to CSK only in their previous game and the loss would still be haunting. The Men in Yellow are their next opponents and a task is on KKR’s hands now turn the tables.
