While the entire cricketing fraternity and the fans are divided amongst themselves over their opinions on the Mankading incident that was pulled off by Ravi Ashwin on Monday, the very famous Jimmy Neesham expressed a completely different opinion on the same. Playing their opening fixture against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, Kings XI Punjab saw their captain carry out a questionable act.

Even though the MCC’s rulebook safeguards Ashwin’s act of running the non-striker batsman out, like all Mankading incidents till date, this one was as questionable. According to the law, bowlers at all levels will be able to run out the non-striker up to the instant at which they “would be expected to deliver the ball”. Some experts have questioned the nature of the dismissal.

The 32-year-old veteran spinner was clear in expressing his act as “instinctive” in the post-match press conference on Monday. However, replays have revealed that the off-spinner had deliberately delayed the release of his delivery to trick the Rajasthan Royals batsman Jos Buttler into moving away from the white line and perfectly carried out his schemed plan.

Jimmy Neesham deviates from giving an opinion

During the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which the West Indies eventually won, Delhi capitals recruit Keemo Paul attracted some controversy when he mankaded a batsman in the last over of the final group match between the against Zimbabwe. Being a U-19 cricketer his act was questioned much more since many were of the opinion that a teenager should be more considerate than this.

During that time, New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham posted a series of Tweets questioning the act of the youngster. In one of the tweets, he had written, “I thought the non-striker could leave his crease as soon as the bowler’s back foot landed. Has that rule changed?”

But this time around when the Kiwi was asked by a fan on Twitter about his opinion of the act carried out by KXIP skipper Ravi Ashwin, Neesham adopted his hilarious retorting style and wrote something that’s clearly deviating from the topic but in good humour. “My thoughts are the following: It was only this morning for me. Aren’t time zones cool,” he wrote.
