Jofra Archer bid goodbye to IPL 2019 leading his team, the Rajasthan Royals to an amazing win over the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. Archer along with Ben Stokes will leave for England to join the preparatory camp organized by ECB. Archer though in the team primarily as a bowler contributed 27* in 12 balls and helped RR chase down 176.

The KKR team had posted 175 after an amazing batting effort from skipper Dinesh Karthik who made 97*, his highest T20 and IPL score. But his amazing batting was overshadowed by 17-year-old Riyan Parag, who smacked 47 off 31 balls before being hit wicket, and then Archer completed the proceedings, with a four and a six in the final over to take RR to an unexpected win.

I’m grateful for Rajasthan to take a chance on me, says Archer

“Anyone that comes in to replace me and Stokesy will do a great job, I’m sure of that. I’m grateful for Rajasthan to take a chance on me, having not played any international cricket,” the 24-year-old Archer was quoted as saying by India Today.

“I just wanted to get bat on ball in the last over. I am really gutted that I have to leave the boys. The tournament didn’t go as well as we liked, but moments like these really make me cherish playing for Rajasthan,” Archer mentioned about his thoughts in the last over.

Ben Stokes has been named in the England World Cup squad, while Archer is likely to make his England debut against Pakistan in the upcoming ODI series. This series will be a precursor to the ICC World Cup 2019, as England will announce their finalized squad on May 19 and Archer’s performance in the series will decide on him making it into the squad or not. Archer picked 11 wickets in 11 games with an impressive economy rate of 6.76 in IPL 2019.

RR have just 4 wins from 11 games and are at the 7th spot on the points table and need to win every match for having an outside chance for playoffs qualification.
