IPL 2019: Kieron Pollard fined for breaching the code of conduct in the final

It was an enthralling final between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Hyderabad. It went down to the last ball only for the Mumbai based franchise to win the title for the record fourth time. The game was filled with a lot of drama and it all started in the final over of the first innings when Kieron Pollard was disappointed with the umpire for not giving the wide.

Dwayne bowled a wide yorker which pitched clearly outside the tramline. But the straight umpire Nitin Menon reckoned the batsman had shuffled enough to not be given the wide and that irked the Caribbean. Hilariously, Pollard then stood near the tramline for the next delivery and even as Dwayne Bravo ran in to deliver the ball, he walked away from the pitch.

The bowler was clearly unhappy and both the umpires had to walk to Kieron Pollard and urged him to keep his calm. It was a long chat and the umpires, after the match, reported the same to the match referee as well.

Pollard accepted his mistake

The official website of the IPL released a statement after the match stating that Kieron Pollard has been fined 25% of his match fee for breaching the code of conduct of the tournament. The player also accepted his mistake and didn’t contest the sanction.

“Mr Pollard admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.8 of the IPL Code of Conduct for Players and Team Officials and accepted the sanction,” the statement read.

As far as the match is concerned, the birthday boy Pollard had a great day with the bat scoring an unbeaten on 41 off 25 balls with three fours and as many sixes. His knock helped Mumbai post a competitive total in the end and his presence in the field was also crucial for the team.
