The Kings XI Punjab have almost always been the dark horses of the Indian Premier League and quite often the weakest in the run. Only once have they reached the final of an IPL edition and that was way back in 2014. After the Royal Challengers Bangalore being knocked out of the competition of IPL 2019, the KXIP turned out to be the next in line. On this occasion, KXIP co-owner Preity Zinta wrote to the team’s fans.
Even after showing signs of a great run, the Kings XI Punjab have failed many times. Especially this season, where there were off to a good start due to the fierce captaincy of Ravichandran Ashwin. They were able to secure four wins in their first six matches, however, they managed to end at the 6th position in the IPL points table, winning only six games in total. After a solid start, Ashwin and co. had a downfall wherein they lost 6 games out of their last 8 fixtures.
While the RCB finished last in the table with 11 points, the KXIP could only manage 12 points. It is clear that RCB, RR, KXIP and KKR are out of the competition. Meanwhile, for Punjab, this season has been all about the controversies. Before the start of the season, they were short of sponsors. As the season started, Ashwin’s ‘Mankading’ incident raised a lot of eyebrows. And now that the season has ended for KXIP, one of their co-owners, Ness Wadia has been arrested in Japan for possession of drugs.
Amidst all of this, Punjab have won their final fixture of IPL 2019 to the Chennai Super Kings. Preity Zinta then took to Twitter, expressing disappointment about the exit and she also thanked the fans for their undying support.
Here’s the tweet:
Not the end to the tournament we expected but happy to end with a win. I want to thank all the @lionsdenkxip fans for their constant support through all the seasons 🙏 Next year we will be back better & stronger. #saddasquad
