The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) lost their last three matches and are currently languishing on the sixth position of the points table. At one point in time, Dinesh Karthik and Co were the table toppers, however, the string of defeats kept pushing them down the table. Their next game is against the cellar dwellers in the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on April 19, Friday.
The Knights defeated the Challengers at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and would be hoping to replicate their performance in the City of Joy as well. In the meantime, it has been learned that Jamaican all-rounder Andre Russell, who was instrumental in that victory, has developed an injury on his neck after being hit by a net bowler named Minad Manjrekar as per reports in Cricket Next.
The 30-year-old immediately collapsed on the part after the blow and the team’s physiotherapist rushed to the park to treat the hulk-like cricketer. Thereafter, the prolific player walked off the park. Russell had the option of being stretchered off the field, but he went to the dressing room on his own. Andre was thereafter taken to the CMRI hospital for an MRI scan and the results will be out on Thursday.
A massive figure in KKR
As far as Russell is concerned, he has arguably been the Knight Riders’ standout performer. Thus far, he has scored 312 runs from eight matches at an average of 78 and with a colossal strike-rate of 213.69. In the first three matches, he scored big and returned with the Player of the Match in three of the matches. He was also entrusted to play the Super Over in the match against the Delhi Capitals (DC).
In a couple of instances, he got his team home with some serious onslaught in the death overs. Against the RCB, he scored 48 runs from 13 balls to take the Knights over the finishing line. Having got hit on his neck, the KKR fraternity would be hoping for his recovery at the earliest.
