IPL 2019: Knight Riders appoint new marketing head

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are the two-time champions of the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) and are undoubtedly one of the most followed franchises in the T20 championship. Veteran Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has been associated with the team ever since the first season and it has gained a significant amount of fan following with the progression of every edition.

Ahead of the next edition, the Knights have already started to make some alterations. Recently, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc mentioned that he had been released and the same was communicated to him via an SMS. In the meantime, the Knight Riders have appointed Kaustabh Jha as their new marketing head as per reports in www.campaignindia.in.

“We are delighted to have Kaustubh on board to lead the marketing and fan building initiatives of the Knight Rider brand, which is not only the leading brand in IPL but through our presence in CPL and other initiatives around the world has genuinely become a global brand,” Venky Mysore, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director (MD) of the franchise mentioned.

Jha previously used to work for ESPN where he was the leading content and brand marketing for Cricinfo and ESPN.in. Prior to that, he was with MTV.

A decent season last time

The Knights got a new captain in Tamil Nadu-born Dinesh Karthik, who replaced veteran Gautam Gambhir as the skipper. They were a tad inconsistent in the beginning, but managed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing third on the points table with eight victories from 14 matches.

Karthik and Co won the Eliminator against Ajinkya Rahane’s Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. However, they slumped against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the second qualifier at the same venue. Rashid Khan churned out an all-round performance to slap the Knights with elimination.
