IPL 2019: KXIP seamer Arshdeep Singh speaks to Preity Zinta about his impressive T20 debut

Young left-arm fast bowler Arshdeep Singh made a memorable T20 debut in the game between Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Mohali on Tuesday by picking up two wickets for 43 runs and both his scalps were high-profile ones. The 20-year-old, who has played just six first-class games so far, was picked by the Kings for Rs 20 lakh in the last auction.

After the game that the Kings won by 12 runs to increase their points to 10 in nine games, the franchise’s co-owner Preity Zinta interviewed the local youngster in a fun segment and it was later uploaded on the Indian Premier League’s (IPL) official Twitter account.

Arshdeep took the wickets of Buttler and Rahane

The lad spoke about the nervous energy that came with opening the bowling in his debut game but added that he stuck to the team’s plan and backed his own ability. Preity asked him about the feeling when he got opener Jos Buttler who scored 89 off 43 balls in just the last game, Arshdeep said: “It always feels amazing to get a wicket and that was a really big wicket which helped the team to pressurise the opposition.” Buttler fell for 23 while trying to pull the bowler only to send the ball high up in the air to be caught by the keeper and it pegged the Royals’ chase back.

Arshdeep’s other wicket came in the penultimate over when he got Royals’ captain Ajinkya Rahane caught by Mohammed Shami who was at short third man. The RR finished at 170 for 7, the exact total they had against the Kings in that controversial game in Jaipur on March 25, to lose by 12 runs. Kings captain Ravichandran Ashwin was picked as the Man of the Match for his 2 for 24 in four overs.

Coming back to Arshdeep, the man was part of the Indian squad that lifted the Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand last year and took three wickets in two games that he played. When asked about his wait for eight games before getting to play for the Kings, the bowler thanked the almighty for making an impressive debut.
