IPL 2019: Lalit Modi alleges match-fixing during DC’s match against KKR
Modi asked the BCCI to wake up.
On Saturday, March 30, Delhi Capitals (DC) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were involved in a thrilling encounter at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. The game was tied and it went down to a super over where South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada saved the day for the home team, captained by Shreyas Iyer, after it stuttered in the death overs of their run-chase, losing quite a few wickets.
In the meantime, there was a mini-controversy that sparked in the encounter. The incident took place in the Knight Riders’ innings. Robin Uthappa was batting was Sandeep Lamichanne, the leg-spinning teen-sensation from Nepal, was in the attack.
Before the penultimate ball of the fourth over, Pant said from behind that the next delivery would be hit for a boundary. Uthappa had come to bat after the leg-spinner got rid of Nikhil Naik, who played his maiden match in the T20 tournament.
Lalit Modi slams the IPL
To everyone’s surprise, Uthappa creamed the ball through the covers to open his account in his very first ball. The video of the same also went viral on the social media and it raised speculations that the encounter was fixed. Later the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) cleared the air on the matter, saying it was unfair of the social media ran an incomplete clipping.
Hotstar, which holds the streaming rights, has complained to various social media platforms for illegal use of their footage and are getting the footage removed. In the meantime, Lalit Modi, the former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner, mentioned that there was fixing during that game and also asked the country’s cricket board to make an investigation on the matter.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “Is this a joke or cannot believe this. Match-fixing to the highest order. When will @iplt20 @bcci.tv @icc @bcci ever wakeup,”
