When the Mumbai Indians (MI) hosted the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Wankhede, all eyes were on one man in the second innings. Jasprit Bumrah hailed as the best pacer in the world at the moment, had an important role to play. The batsmen, Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard, in particular, did the job for the team with their finishing skills earlier. 88 runs came off the last six overs of this match and it needed special efforts from the bowlers to put breaks on CSK’s winning streak.
However, when Bumrah walked onto the field, his swollen right eye caused concern amongst the fans as well as the commentators. It didn’t look good and everyone was eager to know the reason behind the same. Head coach Mahela Jayawardene, while speaking on the sidelines during the second innings, revealed the reason why the eye was swollen.
Jasprit Bumrah got into a brawl?
The commentator who was interviewing Mahela funnily asked if he was the reason behind Jasprit Bumrah’s eye. He further questioned if he packed a punch to the pacer. The Sri Lankan was all smiles as soon as this question was asked. He decided to put up his own version of a story first up but he revealed the original reason.
“I think the story is he is going for a night-out you know and get into a brawl or something like that. Just joking. He missed a straight catch from Jimmy the other day. He was quite lucky actually. He had a pretty big swelling yesterday evening and managed to get it down. He’s one of the good ones in the team,” Jayawardene said.
The swollen eye might have affected Bumrah’s performance slightly in the game. He went wicketless in the four overs that he bowled but Mumbai managed to win the match by 37 runs.
